I bought this today and installed along with new DDR2 ram and cpu. Everything seems to be connected properly but the system won't power on. Fans don't spin or anything. If i remove the 4pin ATX connector from this board though, the fans etc will spin up and leds will blink etc (obviously won't post or anything w/o cpu etc). is this a bad board or do i just need a better psu?

-asrock 939dual-sata2 mb
-amd 4800+ AM2 cpu
-Antec 350w psu (my #1 suspect. i had to add an extra 4pin atx using an adapter cable so i could plug in)
-ocz pc2 6400 2x1gb dual channel kit
-asus x1950pro 256 video card

Well, i'm making progress of sorts. I replaced the old 350w PSU with a new 580w Mushkin HP-580AP. The system will now power up (i.e., the fans will spin and leds will emit light etc.) but it won't post. No beeps.

I tried removing everything except cpu, ram, HD and still no post. Also tried ram sticks in different slots (1 at a time and 2 at a time) but no luck. I've triple-checked all connections and reseated the cpu as well as the riser board also with no luck. Also triple checked that i followed riser board installation instructions exactly. All of my old stuff (including motherboard) definitely work because i put it all back together so i could come online and look for answers.

My suspicion is that one of the 3 new items is dead. how to know which? Should i just return them all?

Hey there I just noticed something with your components you have listed there. I'm I missreading or do you have a Socket 939 motherboard, and your new processor is a Socket AM2??

See the product listed here, my guess, he/she is trying to use this AM2 to 939 converter board for his asrock 939dual-sata2.

Check this link:

http://www.ocworkbench.com/2006/asrock/AM2%20CPU%20Board/g2.htm

It seems some jumper need to be set.

Thanks. The jumpers were set correctly as per the motherboard manual.

Also thanks for the link. I had already read that review (helped me decide to buy the add-on board) but it may come in handy yet.

I too was over at
www.ocworkbench.com looking at the following thread that describes my current issue: http://my.ocworkbench.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=66455

The poster there appears to have found a solution and i am going to try the same thing.

Well, I followed the procedure i linked to above and was able to get the system to power up and display the intitial boot screen. It would not boot however and would get stuck at "Checking NVRAM.."

More searching of the googlewebz led me to the identical problem at
http://my.ocworkbench.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=60414&page=5. Thankfully, the identical solution also applied. I had to disable Cool n Quiet in the bios. Now the system boots and loads windows and appears to be functioning normally.

Unfortunately, if i plug in either my DVD or floppy drive, system goes back to not powering on at all just like in OP.

Have you resolved this situation? I'm assuming you flashed your BIOS to the appropiate version. I'm planning on getting this board for myself soon. How's your system running?

That's what I had to do - I had similar issues when I installed my board-
get a BIOS update...that should clear things up.
