Before I get this, can someone tell me if this comes with the necessary cables? If not, which ones do I need? Thanks!

You'll get this drive in an anti-static bag, that's it. The SATA cable comes with your motherboard, power cables come with your power supply and mounting hardware comes with your case. If you are adding this to a pre-built computer you'll have to purchase a SATA cable and possibly some screws seperately.

OEM drives don't come with cables or software.

On the note of cables:

I'm looking to buy this one as a replacement for a previous Pioneer burner which is failing on me. So, since this is a SATA variant, does the power cable have to be the one that SATA HDD's use, or does it use the standard Molex power adapter?

No biggie if it's the former, I'll just pick up a small molex/sata adapter for it.

This drive takes a SATA power connectors, the exact same one used to power your SATA hard drives. Not this does not come with a SATA cable as it's OEM.
If you have any questions about this drive just ask me, I got mine from NCIX 3 days ago.

OK I bought this Pioneer DVD drive and just realized that the power cable is some type of new SATA power cable.

My OCZ PowerStream 600 PSU doesn't have these newer types of connections. It mostly has the bigger 4-hole Molex and the smaller 4-hole DVD type power connections.

Do some kind of Molex to Sata Power adaptors exist? I assume I would need one for this drive as as well as the Samsung F1 750GB hard drive that I also ordered.

You're not trying to place the SATA power cable into the SATA slot that transfers the information from you're drive to your motherboard, are you?
A SATA connector is a SATA connector, there have been no revisions.
James

Edit: You're PSU has 2 SATA power connectors, are you already using them? There are molex-> SATA adaptors if you need them.

I found it!

No, I know what the SATA data cables are. I just never realized that they changed to SATA type power connections (which are longer) as this drive does not have a molex type power connection.

Yes, but multiple reviews state that you're PSU has these SATA power connectors, two of them. Also, the hard drive you ordered will draw power from a SATA connector.

James, you are correct!

I didn't think this PSU had the SATA connections itself. The PSU is still sitting in my old Stacker case still connected to my dead DFI nf3. I just checked and there are two SATA power connections there. They are even connected to a pair of old Maxtor SATA hard drives that have both the SATA and Molex type power connections.

hehe

+10 to you!
