I got this memory to put in an ASUS P5N-E SLI board along with an intel Core 2 6600.

One stick out of the first set of RAM I got was bad so I got an exchange. Once again, out of the second set of RAM I got one of the sticks was bad so I got an RMA a second time.

Now on the third set of RAM all tests pass, as long as I am only running one stick of RAM at a time. As soon as I put both sticks in I get hundreds of errors in memtest and Windows is highly unstable (lucky even if it will boot fully).

I have tried many memory speed and voltage settings, and different slots with both sticks and I am at my wits end. Do I RMA this RAM again? RMA the motherboard? I did read somewhere that this motherboard has issues with dual channel RAM. Does anyone else have the same problems I am.

Thanks

Okay, after doing some more testing I have found that both of the sticks (one at a time) work in all four slots except the slot (black) closest to the edge of the mobo. But once again when I put both sticks in the yellow or black slots I get thousands of errors in memtest (memtest usually crashes after about 15 seconds).

I then switched from 1T timing to 2T timing and everything worked flawlessly - all sticks in all slots and both sticks in either the yellow or the black slots.

So now my question is, is it possible that I have bad ram? bad motherboard? or is this to be expected? If this is "normal operation" how much a performance hit do take going from 1T to 2T timing?

Thanks.

2T is what you're supposed to run for these sticks, I guess.

Based on what you have posted here, it sounds like you have a bad board. The modules all test OK 1-up except in that 1 bad slot. Then they still fail in dual channel. Sounds like the memory controller may be bad.

bump up your voltage by .2 or .3 and try it again. (if you want to run at 1T)

Thanks for your help everyone. Much appreciated. After some digging around I found a pdf file on Corsair's site that says this memory is in fact 2T using some EPP standard (whatever that means).

I will try bumping up the voltage as suggested by Cosmo and see if I can run at 1T. If not, I am happy running at 2T knowing that that is what the RAM is actually rated for.

Thanks again everyone!!

Hey!

This sounds a bit like my fiasco i had with my Asus P5N32-e SLi Plus motherboard and this RAM. Basically, both stick were perfectly fine both individually and in single channel mode (one in blue, one in white) but when i ran in both blue, i got a bunch of BSODs. What caused it was that this RAM is rated to run at 2.1V effectively, at the given timings, 4-4-4-12 with CMD at 2T, and the board boots it at JEDEC standard the frist time at 5-5-5-18 at 1T. So naturally, i changed the timings and especially the voltage and no more BSODs for me!

So just try some timing changes, and use 2.1V. It should solve all your problems!

Brett
