FYI to anyone buying these: It seems that some time in the past Norco changed these from ball bearing to grease tracks.

They are nothing like the picture anymore, more recent pictures can be found online.

They do not slide smooth at all and make pulling out larger 4U cases very difficult (it requires enough force that it moves my rack). They are also extremely messy and you will get grease everywhere.

Greg, any chance of having the description changed? If anything its misleading (not your fault, just another Norco fail)

Well, look at that.
I ordered a couple sets of these a few weeks ago and hadn't installed them yet. Just popped open a box and sure enough, no bearings.
Luckily mine are going to be used with the fairly light weight 2u systems so they shouldn't hamper me, but good note for others.

Now someone just has to find some bearing tracks that will fit these cases.

JUST as I find a decent cheap 2/4U case that works and you [expletive deleteds] do something stupid like this?

While I have no idea how you sell cases for $80 and make money, rails should NOT be $50. And if you're charging $50, they shouldn't be cheap crap.

Looks like I'm moving to Supermicro and not looking back.

The good news is that I had no problems mounting several Norco cases, so I think they made them thinner (finally). For the 2Us you will be fine.

My 4U file server (biggest problem) is getting kicked to the curb and is being replaced with something that comes with its own rails, but that is a 3+ weeks out.

I also have a set of iStar IS-26 rails set to be delivered today, so hopefully they will work in the meantime (will be moved to my other 4U after).

I'm SO tired of crappy rackmount equipment on the cheap end that I'm tempted to contract out a factory in China to produce some.

Supermicro chassis are awesome, but the cheapest 4U including rails is $400. Granted... that includes a PSU but that's only like $80.

Yes how nice of them, new sku RL-BB

At this point, I say forget it. I think I am just going to pay a tiny bit extra and stick with Supermicro Chasses from now on. The 2U's are fairly reasonable and include rails, no fuss required.
