Well thats good then so long as they provide it for free, as I own my equipment like a lot of users do. So it better be a straight up 1-1 swap out, though I guess I will have to pick it up at their store downtown.

Here is a chat log from today with a shaw csr.

GoToAssist:
Your representative has arrived.

Shaw Employee (08:30:00):
Thank you for choosing Shaw Chat Support, my name is Sheena. We have read your query, however before continuing, would you please confirm your home telephone number and address so that I can bring up your account information?

Shaw Employee(08:31:53):
what can we help you with?

Myself (08:32:00):
I see that shaw has made my dreams come true with regards to the internet packages
Myself(08:32:09):
right now im currently on the nitro package
Myself (08:32:25):
when the new packages take effect what will my current package become?

Shaw Employee (08:34:29):
This is brandnew to us as well, there are 3 different packages that you can choose from

Myself (08:35:13):
well im looking at the unlimited 100. what will that add to my bill? I beleive the Unlimited 100 is what im currently paying for my nitro

Shaw Employee (08:36:41):
Yes, your base price would change to 144.90 and then your theme packs will be on top of that

Myself (08:37:03):
See thats confusing with the personalizer
Myself (08:37:21):
so if i went with the unlimited 100 what would that make my monthly bill?

Shaw Employee(08:39:11):
From my calculations, it looks like you will actually save $5.00
Shaw Employee (08:39:26):
monthly bill will go from 219.90 to 214.90

Myself (08:40:38):
so when can i move to the new package? or can i just treat my current package as unlimited until the 100 unlimited is availible?

Shaw Employee (08:40:42):
We will!

            :D

I smell a big network equipment fiasco soon with people complaining to Shaw that they don't get their full pipe speed.

CONSUMERS, READY YOUR ROUTERS!

This is great but a load of BS can shaws network actually give you full speed? also Essentially to get unlimited you have to shell out 150 bucks a month ?

No Thanks I will stick with my Telus Optik 25/5 and my 1gbit seedbox

With out lower prices , Shaw is still trying to put lipstick on the pig and calling it beautiful

Looks like a cisco aio unit is available with supported bridge mode. Thank goodness, my area does not have the docsis 3 surfboards.

We'll see Dante. You have to pay for your seedbox too, don't ya? :P

The only reason you -get- unlimited right now is because Telus doesn't care. At what point do they start enforcing it? We have in writing from Shaw that it is properly unlimited amounts of data transfer. Most Telus users are getting by on a 'slight' oversight. I say 'slight' because they could just flip the switch and start enforcing their caps again.

So while I don't like that transfers will still be capped on most agreements, this is a step in the right direction.

Telus and shaw are both stupid for even thinking of using caps when Verizon and Comcast  both recently stated they have no plans to use UBB or Hard caps

Just for thought, Comcast  was voted one of the worst Internet Providers in the USA.

The CRTC was initially going to allow the large ISPs(Shaw, Telus, Bell, etc.) to impose the same bandwidth caps on the smaller ISPs(such as TekSavvy) that use part of their infrastructure, which, in effect, would eliminate competition for the consumers that were pissed-off at the big guys' UBB. AFAIK, they still plan on enforcing monthly caps, at least in some way..... after reading about these new plans, I saw it somewhere on Shaw's site, that if you go over your monthly cap, you'll automatically be temporarily raised up to, and pay for, the next tier of internet plans, and at the end of the month, your data usage will be reset, and you'll start back at your regular plan for the next month.

32TB Down and 1.6Tb up for 150 a month is extremely reasonable

Honestly

if you can pin your connection 24/7 on the unlimited plan (which I doubt you can), the costs of getting hard drives will far exceed your network access costs.

What are you going to, download something and delete  it right away? Because 32TB would cost you over 1500$ worth of equipment per month to store what you download...

I found this year with Netflix hulu + and nhl game center i was hovering around 900gb /mnth. THen add offsite backups and such i was easily around 1.7tb.

Btw i currently have 40tb of space with another 60tb coming online within the next 2 months

I meant that Shaw won't be letting you pin your connection 24/7.

They're including a router with these new packages.

I went to their followup meeting yesterday from the previous discussions. These seem like a good alternative to UBB.

I have seen the router they are trying to push. Its some SMC piece of garbage. I seriously doubt it will do 100mbit ESPECIALLY under load.

PFsense or a Cisco 3750 look the like only options for 100mbit. And YIKES to 250mbit. Going to need a REALLY powerful router to do that.

Hyperlight, they said they're doing away with SMC and going with a Cisco router that can (thankfully) be put into bridge mode.

No, not that one. They were talking about a new Cisco AIO unit.

Yes, I brought up that point specifically. Consumer routers we sell today will not handle those speeds.
